Report from Coughenour Engineering- Royce Coughenour, Borough Engineer:

The levee again protected the town of Hyndman!

The peak flow at the USGS gage near the sewage-treatment plant peaked at 11:00 pm Thursday March 10th at 8.78’ (This equates to approx 8 feet of water or an elevation of 952 feet at Schellsburg Street bridge).

This is the link to the gage:.  http://waterdata.usgs.gov/pa/nwis/uv?site_no=01601000

Note: “The elevation of this gage is approximately 1 foot higher than the markings on the concrete wall at the Schellsburg Street bridge

There was some basement water because of the ground-water level rise.

We will have to let the waters go down before we can check the condition of the riprap and if the outfalls need any cleaning.

We will be organizing a flood-fighter team to take care of closing sluice gates in case of a major high-water event.  We also need volunteers to watch for problems or potential problems along the levee system.

Anyone wishing to volunteer should contact the borough office: (814)-842-3191 or sshaffer@hyndmanboro.comcastbiz.net
