Reminders about ordinance compliance:

Ø Property owners must keep their grass and weeds trimmed to a height of less than 12 inches.  Per borough ordinance, do not direct mown grass onto sidewalks or streets as it clogs drains and becomes slippery when it gets wet, causing problems for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Ø Pet owners must clean up after their animals when on public property.  Certain poisonous or dangerous animals, domestic fowl, and wild animals may not be kept in the borough.  It is unlawful for animal owners to allow their pets (including cats) to run at large (unleashed).  It is unlawful for persons to allow their pets to make noise continuously for 20 minutes or intermittently for ½ hr.  To report dogs running loose or dangerous dogs, please call State Dog Warden Tracy Miller at 717-571-3627 or 717-772-4352.

Ø It is a violation of Hyndman Borough’s nuisance ordinance to store junk on your property.  It is also illegal to store abandoned vehicles (without a valid registration or current inspection) on private or public property in Hyndman Borough.  Burning garbage is also not allowed.  Also, having dilapidated/dangerous structures on a property within the borough is a violation of borough ordinance and state building-code laws.

Ø Hyndman Borough’s curfew ordinance states: “....it shall be unlawful for any person under the age of eighteen (18) years to be or remain in or upon any of the streets, alleys, parks or other public places in the Borough of Hyndman between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.”

Ø It is illegal to drive ATVs on borough streets, alleys, or any other public areas.

911 Addresses/House Numbers

If you don't know your house number, call 623-1878 (Bedford County 911 Office).  We have noticed that many Hyndman Borough residents do not have numbers on their houses. The numbers must be at least 3 inches in height and should be highly visible. We urge everyone to post their house numbers as soon as possible. This is required by borough ordinance and is to your benefit, especially in emergency situations.

***********************************************

Building checklists are required for any new construction or demolition in Hyndman Borough. You must contact Borough Foreman Baron Leap (842-6883) before beginning construction or demolition.

*************************************

A REMINDER TO 4-WHEELER OWNERS…..

It is a violation of state law to operate a 4-wheeler on borough streets or alleys.
